Lotus Evora

The Lotus Evora is a sports car produced by British car manufacturer Lotus. The car, which was developed under the project name Project Eagle, was launched as the Evora on 22 July 2008 at the British International Motor Show.

Development

The Lotus Evora is based on the first all-new vehicle platform from Lotus Cars since the introduction of the Lotus Elise in 1995 (the Exige, introduced in 2000, and the 2006 Europa S are both derivatives of the Elise). The Evora is the first vehicle of three vehicles to be built on the same platform; the remaining two vehicles will be on sale by 2011.

The Evora is the first product of a five year plan started in 2006 to expand the Lotus line of cars. As such it is a larger car than recent Lotus models Elise and its derivatives (Exige, Europa S, etc.), with an estimated kerb weight of 1,350 kg (3,000 lb). It is currently the only Lotus model with a 2+2 configuration, although it has been announced that it will also be offered in a two-seater configuration, referred to as the “Plus Zero” option. It is also the only 2+2 mid engined coupé on sale. The interior is larger to allow taller persons to fit, such as Lotus CEO Mike Kimberley, and two 99th percentile (6'5″) American males.

The cooled boot behind the engine is large enough to fit a set of golf clubs, although Lotus Design Head Russell Carr denies that this was intentional. Lotus intends the Evora to compete with different market sectors including the Porsche Cayman.
Name

The name “Evora” keeps the Lotus tradition of beginning model names with an “E”. The name is derived from the words evolution, vogue, and aura. Other names considered were Eagle, Exira and Ethos; Exira was rejected as it was considered not good enough and the other two because it would be difficult for Lotus to claim them as a trademark.

Production

Sales are expected to start in summer 2009. The sales target is 2000 cars per year, with prices between £45,000 and just over £50,000. It will arrive at American dealers beginning in January 2010.

Awards

On 12 August 2009, British car magazine Autocar named the Evora as Britain's Best Driver's Car 2009.

Reviews

The car was reviewed by presenter Jeremy Clarkson on the British automotive television show Top Gear. The review was positive overall. Clarkson considered the rear seats to have not enough legroom, the interior felt cheap and the satellite navigation was sub-optimal. On the upside he was very happy with the performance, handling and comfort. He was extremely impressed with the ride comfort, taking it off the track comfortably.

The Evora also won EVO magazines 'Car of the Year 2009' and CAR magazines 'performance car of the Year 2009'.

Suzuki Kizashi

Suzuki is continuing it's push into the medium car segment by introducing an all-wheel-drive sporty variant of the impressive Kizashi saloon launched earlier this year. The Kizashi Sport AWD rides lower and has a much more aggressive front-end styling to distinguish it from the 2WD models.

The Suzuki Kizashi has a CVT transmission that incorporates six speeds into the manual shift option within the CVT. The AWD technology has added around 75 kg to the Kizashi’s weight which has also bumped up the fuel consumption by around half a litre per 100 kms – 8.4 litres/100 km.

Suzuki say the extra fuel consumption is more than offset by the Kizashi's AWD's superior road handling and holding, as well as improved safety on slippery surfaces. “This car is all about the driving,” said Suzuki Queensland spokesman, Mike Turner. The Kizashi Sport AWD uses the same 2.4 litre in line four found in Grand Vitara since 2008. The engine has been tweaked to 131 kW at 6000 rpm and 230 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm.

Visually the Kizashi Sport AWD is more impressive than the 2WD with 18 inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, the lower road height and front changes which include a different bumper, matching lower grille and fog lamp bezels with chrome accents. There's a hint of Audi about the grille. In addition the suspension has been tuned.

The interior of the Sport AWD is slightly different with a three spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel different door garnishes and the leather trim gets silver double stitching while the side gets a lower body skirt and the rear a boot lid spoiler.

The new AWD system provides much more than power to all four wheels. The system is activated by a dash-mounted switch that goes between 2WD and AWD auto. In AWD auto mode the system measures road and driving conditions through readings from a series of sensors and processors. The AWD system then adapts the distribution of torque to the front and rear wheels to best manage cornering control. In oversteer situations torque is diverted the the front wheels. In understeer torque is sent to the rear wheels. In addition the system is also able to detect if the driving is taking evasive steering correction in the event of lateral movement, as assist in this technique.

In addition the Kizashi is also fitted with the latest safety technology: ABS brakes, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP). Kizashi Sport AWD was developed to handle snow conditions in Japan.

Zaz Lanos

Zaz Lanos

ZAZ Lanos Hatchback

“Lanos” is striking, impressive appearance with original three-sectional radiator grille, original elliptic headlamps and almost perfect aerodynamic shape of body with big windshield slope, excellent equilibrium of volumes and thoroughly thought-out style. High quality of design, which has determined the appearance of vehicle, and careful engineering are the characteristic features of “Italdesign” studio and make such models to be long-livers on automobile market.

Under smooth rounded shape of compact body spacious passenger compartment and roomy trunk are hidden. Originally designed as three-door hatchback Lanos body had front overhang more than rear one and it added remarkable dynamics to its look.

In respect of safety “Lanos” deserves the highest appraisal. Developed passive safety system, which more than ones had been tested both on benches and in real road conditions, proved its effectiveness in collisions on level road and during vehicle overturn. This system is based on high-strength front and rear pillars connected by four strong braces along the roof and resting against reinforced rocker panel with cross-members on the passenger compartment floor. The safety system is amplified by bars of steel pipes, which are installed in front and rear doors and under windshield. Bars of box-like section frame engine and are capable to take upon themselves the greater part of energy during head-on impact. Such location of reinforced body elements creates spatial area of safety around passenger compartment. Due to head rests, height adjustable seat belts, effective brakes with ventilated disks, fog lamps and also optional air bags and ABS “Lanos” takes the same level as the most wreck-resistant vehicles in its class.

2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS

Mercedes CLS

Born in 2004, the Mercedes-Benz CLS defines sleek, its elegant body seemingly drawn entirely from the simple sweep of the body-side crease. In the car business, falling in love with a design is dangerous, but we did. As previous spy shots (and one frightening concept said to lend cues to upcoming Benzes) trickled out, we feared the next-generation CLS might be headed in the direction of a Hollywood plastic-surgery disaster.

Although slightly obscured, the most recent photos captured by our spies prove the 2012 CLS will thankfully do without the superfluous forms of the F800 Style concept, although the shape won’t be quite as dramatic as the CLS-shaped sculpture Mercedes trucked to Detroit. The new look does little to quell the debate in our office about whether or not the upcoming car will be an improvement on the last generation.

Our past peek at a car wearing tight-fitting vinyl camouflage had already exposed the modifications to the new design. The nose is reshaped with a larger grille, more sculpting to the front bumper, and bigger headlights. The grille has to grow to match up with the taller hood, raised to provide more space between sheetmetal and hard bits in accordance with stringent new European pedestrian-protection standards. (Relatively speaking, sheetmetal is softer than engine components, and more space between hood and engine ostensibly means less-severe injuries in car/human collisions.) The most controversial aspect of the new shape will likely be the buff new E-class–style rear haunches, which are decidedly outside the standard of conservative elegance established by the first CLS. Like the rest of the Mercedes-Benz lineup, the 2012 car is going in a more muscular, angular direction.

That muscularity will extend under the hood as well, with “CLS350 CGI” trunk badging suggesting that the car captured here sports the new 3.5-liter V-6, the first member of Mercedes-Benz’s forthcoming engine family we’ll see in the U.S. The rest of the CLS’s U.S. engine choices will be drawn from this family—indeed, that family will replace the current engines across the Mercedes board—including a twin-turbocharged 429-hp, 4.6-liter V-8 and an even more powerful, 536-hp, turbocharged 5.5-liter eight for AMG models.

The—at this point—almost fully uncovered CLS will make its official debut later this year, with sales beginning shortly thereafter elsewhere in the world, but likely not before 2011 in the U.S.
